going this way, it is very easy to not use your modifications and return to a pristine installation to test of the bug or problem still exists or if it is caused by something you have done or added to your installation. rc files, or command line options is the proper way to override those settings. this also goes for modifying the defaults.xml file which used to be a common thing before its name was changed. if you made this change a year or more ago and simply don't remember it when you upgrade, then you'll be complaining and reporting a non-existent bug that you created yourself. for example, uninstalling or upgrading might not work properly because of manual manipulation so you end up with a mix of files causing unexplained problems that no one else can reproduce.Īnother example is if you do upgrade, you might loose your changed files because they get overwritten. I’ve been with sim flying for 20 years and have done this in the past a lot easier than now. there are methods of overriding them that have been specifically created to avoid causing possible problems by manual modification. I completely installed a fresh version of X-Plane 11.51 and downloaded a fresh brand new version of the Navigraph data manager reinstalled it a dozen times, rebooted a dozen times, how can this possibly be an easy route using a data manager. One should never manually change the files in the FG program or FGData directories. ![]() No! it would be much better to place them in your "blahblah/SceneryOverrides/NavData/ directories.
